Like Father, Like Son!

The legacy continues, and Kenny Sr. is no stranger to offers from Universities. Kenny Sr. played “78-82’, DB for the OREGON DUCKS, he was number 8. Now, Kenny (KJ) Jr. is riding that train. In a previous Hub, we read about Kenny Sr. and how his dream faded. Now, with all of his experience, he is promoting and guiding his son, Kenny Jr.’s path to live his dream.

Kenny Sr. has shown his natural talent, speed and skills as a DB with the “Ducks” in the late 70’s into the 80’s. His dream cut short by a “knee Blow out”. Loving “Football” as he did, he went into coaching and brought KJ along with him. KJ is no stranger to the field and sport. He has followed dad around the football life, while dad was coaching. He started with “Care Youth League”, “Junior All-American, Snoop Dogg’s Football League and then Pop Warner. KJ would love to follow in the footsteps of his dad and play for the “OREGON DUCKS”. He has enjoyed the “offers’” coming in and hopes they will put an offer on the table. He is also looking at University of Kentucky, a SEC school, along with Miami and Florida State. To date, none of the schools mentioned have called with an “offer”. KJ is an exceptional Junior WR, at Upland High School, in Southern California. He has already committed to (ASU), Arizona State University. He is the first to commit for 2012. Another offer came from (SMU), Southern Methodist University, then, another this week from, the University of Nebraska, followed by University of Washington. The naturally talented and skilled student-athlete is a rising star and has had an “AWESOME” past season, with 42 receptions, 887 yards and 10TD’s.

Coach Fisher is the new Offensive Coordinator with Nebraska, he stated, “He can come in and play right away for us, and play in our new and very exciting spread offense being installed this spring.” He went on to say, “We are extremely excited about KJ’s speed, feet, hips and most of all his hands. He has the big time size, speed and length we really like to have at the WR position. He is a big time offer kid for us, and we will recruit him hard.” To this, when KJ had a chance to talk with the coach, he stated," He liked the offer and looks forward to attending the summer football camp, campus tour and getting to know the coaching staff. I am real excited in learning more about the "New Spread Offense".

This has been exciting for KJ, and he is grateful for all the hard work his dad is doing, and all the CONNECTION’S, you know who you are! Many of you know Coach Kenny Lawler and know he loves his children. Many of you helped raise KJ on the “football field”. Both are hoping to hear from the “DUCKS” coaches soon, until then, KJ will continue to perform at “Top Level” and he will be participating at the “NIKE” Football Camp on Sunday.

Fantastic! I wish KJ all the luck. He is lucky to have his parents behind him. That means a lot.

We have two grandsons. Colton now 11 was born with a football in his hands. Really! It does not matter what sports it is. He concurs them all, He lives and breaths football, baseball, basketball. He has a great support system parents, friends and relatives. He also stays on the honor roll at school. He has been told if he does not keep his grades up, he will not play ball. So he does it. When he was only 3 years old he could throw a football up over our house! NO LIE! The boy has got an arm and he is fast. Real fast. He can think on his feet and react to the situation. Coaches are all ready fighting for him and he is not even in high school yet. His parents are laid off and did not have the money to sign him and his brother (Skyler who is also great) up for baseball. My sons friend stepped in and paid it for them. He said;I am not worried about getting the money back, this is an investment.

They live in a really rural area so there are not many opportunities for them, like Care Youth programs.

Colton will tell you that is why he keeps his grades up,so he can play for a collage and get seen.

I wish we had some connections to help him along the way but I think his love of the sport and his deterination will get him where he wants to be. I pray for him and his brother everyday to stay on track and keep focused on their dreams.

Future Phila. Eagles here! That is their favorite team. No matter if they are winning or losing they still stick by their team. They are true fans.

It is so good when you hear about kids like KJ and my grandsons that have goals and are good kids
